Nothing happens unless…a volunteer shift is missed.
Families save a card at registration instead of writing a paper deposit check. The league charges only if a missed shift is verified — and every step is on the record.
How the condition works
A card on file, not a check in a drawer
- 01
Register as usual
A family signs up for the season and reaches the deposit step on their phone.
- 02
Save a card, not a check
Card details go straight to Stripe. The league never sees the number — only that a card is on file.
- 03
Nothing moves unless a shift is missed
If the family completes its volunteer shift, no money moves at any time. If a shift is missed, the family is contacted before anything is charged.
What parents see
A receipt for restraint
The whole experience is built to lower the temperature, not raise it. A parent enters a card the way you hand it to a waiter you have already decided to trust: one plain-English promise, the exact amount, and a confirmation that celebrates the non-charge.
Card saved. $0 charged. Condition recorded.
Nothing is charged unless a volunteer shift is missed — you will be contacted first.
What treasurers control
The money lands in the league's own account
- Your Stripe account, your dashboard
- Deposits are saved and charged on the league's own connected Stripe account. Backstop takes no cut of a deposit.
- You decide every charge
- A deposit is charged only after the season and only for a shift the league verifies as missed. The policy is yours; Backstop keeps the records.
- No paper to store or chase
- No stack of checks in a drawer all season, no end-of-season sorting, no arguing a missed shift from memory against a spreadsheet.
Evidence ledger
Every decision is backed by an append-only record
When a dispute comes up, there is nothing to reconstruct from memory. The league opens the family's record and reads exactly what happened, in order.
Volunteer deposits without the paper checks.
Backstop is running its first league pilots this season. If your league still collects paper deposit checks, we would like to hear from you.
